GENERAL MOTORS LEADS IN PATENTS

According to The Patent Board, GM received 1,672 U.S. patents in 2013 applied to global product engineering, powertrain engineering, manufacturing, research and development and OnStar organizations. Toyota came in second place with 1496 patents and Ford had half of GM. Two of the patents were instrumental in the development of the 2014 Corvette Stingray. The first was for aluminum welding and the second was the latching system on the rear decklid.
